I saw this quote on a mentor’s Facebook page and it resonated with me. When I look at it I see a formula, YOU + Choices = the person you decide to be. The part that rings in my head is “the person you decide to be”. It reminds me that every day I have thoughts which influence my attitude, I decide my destiny, my activities or lack thereof.
When I reflect on this quote, a picture of a puzzle comes to mind. Each of our lives is like a puzzle, we have to find the pieces that fit and put our life together so that at the end of our life we leave a whole puzzle (our legacy). I envision a person walking down the street of a big city, there are many puzzle pieces, because there are many people in the world, however, there is only one puzzle that is unique to me, to you, because we are all the same but each of us have unique qualities. Your puzzle pieces may not fit with mine, so I must find the ones that are suitable for me. The puzzle pieces range from thoughts, feelings, character traits, events, to physical qualities, etc. For example, some of the puzzle pieces I have found that fit with me are; a love for children, big brown eyes, determination, director of events, education, empowerment, generosity, health, honesty, Jesus Christ as the center of my life, love, loyalty, selflessness, the desire to make a difference in the world and more. Some of these things were easy to reach or “find” however some I have had to work at, I have had to commit to daily.
How many people in the world today expect someone to show them all of their puzzle pieces, expect someone to “give” them all they need? How many people bring others down when they cannot find their own puzzle pieces?
Are you striving every day to find your own puzzle pieces and create a legacy that will last well past your lifetime, or are you waiting for someone to come and bring you your puzzle pieces? What is your legacy or “puzzle” that you want people to remember… what picture do you want them to see?
I will share the legacy I want to leave behind… each day I make choices and decide who I want to be:
“My vision and legacy for the future is someone who stands up for what I believe in and someone who is loyal and loving towards all no matter what. In all things God is the center of my life, and serving and helping people brings me fulfillment. I chose to be someone who is loving and deserving of love; who is a child of God. My life is a diamond always being cut and faceted to one day become a brilliant diamond in the crown of the King of Kings, where one day I hope to hear, “well done, good and faithful servant.” My legacy I want to leave behind is a legacy of LOVE, self-worth, and a family who can continue the work of loving and sharing love and self-worth with others.” - Rebekah Chavez, PM 8/13/2011.
Have a SUPER day,
